Obsessive Compulsive

One more post about Robert Pollard and then I’ll move on to other things for a while, I promise!

I have my reasons for drooling about his music, of course, the main one being that I think the man is an absolute genius. Accordingly, I’ve made a habit of collecting the various bits and pieces as I’ve found them over the years and, with a man as prolific as him, there are a ton of bits and pieces. I am fortunate that you, Dear KMA Readers, are so tolerant of my glee.

Most recently, I wrote in these pages about filling my new MP3 player, Weed King, with nothing but GBV. Sweet! And this morning I was over at the little shrine I have in the corner of the living room, where I keep all of these treasures on their own shelf (in chronological order, of course), and I was amazed at the piles that have amassed over the years.

The first thought that crossed my mind, after the initial amazement at the mounds of goodness, was that it would be awesome to review every single one of these records for this site. And I may do that, over time. But a person would need several months strictly dedicated to listening to it all and writing about it. Not that I’m not willing to do that. Seriously.

Today, though, I’m just gonna list what I’ve got, because I hadn’t quite realized how far I’d gotten into this collection until I had a good look. Everything I have is on CD, no vinyl (except for 2), largely because I don’t have a player at the moment. If you can believe it, this leaves me out of the loop on another multitude of even more things that haven’t yet seen release on CD. I can only hope that one day they will. Please make a bunch of box-sets or individual re-releases, Mr. Pollard! Please!!!

OK, so why am I doing this? Because, as you’ll see, this project of mine has gone beyond mere collecting and entered the world of Fandom. And I like it a lot, thank you very much. It’s very comfy here.

Fans (like me) will notice some gaps and omissions. These are OK. The process of the search, coupled with finding a new (to me) treasure and then hearing it for the first time is pure bliss. Of course, if any of you have things I’m missing and are willing to send them to a good home (at reasonable rates), I’d be more than happy to hear from you. Drop us a comment.

If you want details on any the following, I cannot suggest strongly enough that you visit here: www.gbvdb.com for the most amazingly detailed, searchable and interconnected information. This site really is brilliant!

So, here it all is as of today, January 12, 2007, in rough chronological order (as near as I can be bothered to get it, anyway). I’ve included all the singles, EPs, side projects, compilation appearances, DVDs, solo project/related/spinoffs and anything else that has washed up on these shores of mine. It’s a beautiful thing.

 ***

See what I mean? Yeah baby, I’m obsessive. And in case you’re wondering, I do indeed listen to all of these albums. If I haven’t got a specific track or record in mind when I head to the stack, I will usually just grab a disc at random from this growing discography and play whatever I get. Not once has it been the wrong choice, or musically anything less than brilliant.

Wahooo!
