Blah Blah Blah

* This post can easily be confused with Alex Lifeson’s acceptance speech at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. It’s OK. I understand.

Everybody’s all hot and bothered about the Oscars tonight. Seriously? Isn’t it time to let that crap go, already? I can’t even begin to list all of the things that are wrong, annoying, insipid, horrifying and pointless about the whole thing without getting mad. So I won’t. I need to sleep tonight. Suffice it to say, I don’t care who wins. I am so glad I don’t have a TV. But if I did, you can bet I wouldn’t watch that crap.

Anyway, this is a music blog. So… music today? It was an admin day, just clearing up the hard drive and getting some stuff organized. Fascinating, eh? We did play some Wynton Marsalis in the car this afternoon, as we ran errands. But I didn’t get a chance to sit down and pay attention to a record for review purposes. So instead, you get this post all about how I don’t find the Oscars interesting and how I don’t have anything interesting to post. You’re welcome.

You know something, I thought weekends were supposed to be relaxing… you know, a couple of days away from work (my lovely wife only works weekdays), but this weekend was a zoo. A visit from the parental units yesterday, then running all over town today… Meh.

Regular KMA awesomeness should resume tomorrow.

Also: a shout-out to James, living in a town that set a new cold temperature record for yesterday’s date, at -38.8C. No idea what it was with windchill added on… Hope you’re safe and inside where it’s warm, Dude!

  1. I watched some of the Oscars. A few good bits. Most of it was meh. Same as every year ever, I guess?

    Funniest part: John Travolta’s “hair”

It got to -58C with the windchill here this weekend. There were reports of windows and car tires spontaneously exploding. We just wore sweaters and slippers and were mostly fine.

    • This may be the first time I’ve ever had to Approve a comment from you. And on your own blog!

I’m glad there were good bits of the Oscars. I’m still not feeling it, but I know many people get excited about it.

Oh man, yer in the deep of the winter right now. The ‘Questioning Your Life Choices’ part of the year. I remember those days, in the ‘Toon. Worst I remember was -56C plus windchill. I know that ballpark. That was the day my block heater cord broke off in my hand, snapped like a candy cane. Those are the days that, when you breathe in, the insides of your nose freeze up. I feel for you man, I really do. People are complaining here, and we even have a windchill warning at a mere -21C (feels like -30C). Ontario wimps. 😉

  2. I did not watch. I’m just curious if anyone interviewed Rob Ford. I’m sure the Sun will let me know.

  3. Here in Tbay back around New Yrs Eve the temp with the windchill reached -51…yep -51 and that required two boosts and finally a new battery!
Lately it’s been -45 with the windchill it is what it is..stay in crank the heat..what can ya do..oh yeah read your guys blogs!
    That’s what I do!

    • Dude, like I told James, I remember those days (in Saskatoon). Sure does let you know you’re ALIVE, eh?

With the crew that’s building, you’ve got a lot of great reading to do on those cold nights! And then of course there’s this blog, too.

Hey Deke, have you got a music blog? I’d read that, for sure.

  4. No man I don’t have a blog,I’m not good on putting down words like you guys.
I stumbled across Mikes site when I did a google search on Helix and than I left Mike a reply and I went viral from there…
But now I got u,Mike,Kamer,Jon,Every Picture,80s Metal Man ,HMOs and 1537 all on my ipad screen saved!!
You guys end up tackling all the albums I have or have listened to so its a great way to read and comment ….

    • Oh man, Deke, you totally should have a blog! Come join the cool kids! Hahaha. But seriously, the main reason I love it is because it changes how I listen to music. When I throw on a record, I am listening to it and really paying attention, already forming words I’ll want to use when I get to writing it up. It changed the quality of my listening experience. And for the better, I’d say.

And yup, you’ve got the main ones listed. Solid reading in all of those blogs.

As for content around here, once I get through the stacks here from HMO and Lebrain, I’ll probably be branching out quite a bit. If you have a look at, you’ll see that my current collection encompasses many different things. I hope you’ll still chime in with your comments even if it’s something you haven’t heard!
