New Look KMA

There seemed to be some issues with comments and replies, and Sarca suggested perhaps our theme was too old, so we’ve updated your favourite KMA blog to this new look.

It’s called Suits, which is appropriate since it seems to have taken our look to the cleaners.

We hope you like it. And we’ll see if having a newer theme solves the issues.

  4. Sorry, didn’t work…:(

Do me a favour. I’m geeking out over here…
In WP, go to your dashboard to settings> discussion> Other Comment settings> to “Enable threaded (nested) comments # levels deep”. What number do you have? I’ll check back if i don’t get a proper notification.

    • I followed those directions (without a GPS!) and it says “3” for that nested number. So that’s likely the answer right there. If it’s not allowing comments past three levels, that’s pretty damned short conversation (if I understand this setting correctly).

Simple matter of increasing that, and problem solved?

      Like

      • Also, I was thinking, we’d better increase that number for another reason – we all know that my comments on these things are pretty deep!

      • There, I cranked that sucker up to 10 nested comments. I hope that doesn’t retroactively flood you with all the missed threads.

        Like

        • Yup, again you commented on YOUR OWN comment… I just had an AHA MOMENT!!!
This may also be the problem! Again I didn’t get a notification for this comment. But, yeah, more nested comments might help eliminate it…Don’t reply directly from your own comment. No one will see it!! You should have replied to my original comment in the thread.

          Like

      • Hmm, that may help. Mine is 4 levels. BTW, WP says if you change your nesting number, it will only apply to future comments – not any existing.

I have also discovered a weird workaround where I can easily reply using the notifications dropdown in the admin toolbar in WordPress; where on the actual blog a reply button isn’t offered following a person’s comment, I can use the notifications dropdown, and reply there…like this comment, for example! In a lot of cases, that’s where I am commenting from.

One more thought: It might matter too where you are commenting from – your MAC, phone…WP app, browser…in the WP Reader…I predominantly use a browser and read the blogpost outside of the reader. My replies are usually written on the blog or using the notifications dropdown. There are a ton of ways to access and to comment. Maybe this is one bug we won’t be able to solve?

  5. I like it. Clean. Simple. Almost went with that one but I went with Manifest. Not sure if it’ll work in the long run but if I ever get around to adding content I’ll know what tweaks I need to make. You are the one who has to make you happy though. On the other hand change is good. Whatever.

    • We’ve changed the theme on this blog a few times, over the years we’ve been filling the ether with this stuff. Generally speaking, I’m not too bothered with it except it has to be pleasing to the eye, and easy to use. I had one other theme a while back but Phillip pointeed out he couldn’t see the comments so poof, that one was gone. I’m hoping this fixes the issue Sarca noticed, but she also seems to be on the case of another setting that may help too, so it may not be the theme at all. And if it isn’t, oh well, now we’re wearing Suits!

  6. Nice. I’d quite like to redo mine – make the pictures bigger, but I rely too heavily on the sidebars and I can’t find one that does both – so I’m stuck as I am for ever!

    • I’ve seen a lot of photo themes that look really awesome (I told Mike he should check ’em out too) but I could see why they wouldn’t have much space for the sidebars… There’s gotta be one out there, though.

Or, how savvy are you with this stuff, could you make your own? Or maybe there’s a free template out there that you could install and arrange as you see fit? I’ve never looked too deeply into that end of things, relying as I do on the hard work of other people to make my site look nice – for free!

I like your site as it is, though I have noticed that it takes a bit to load. I’ll think it’s all there, go to type one of my searingly insightful comments, and then the page will jump because it was still loading images so I scroll back to the comment box. It’s not a big deal, but I think the picture-heavy content takes my interwubs a while to provide me with all of your content goodness.

    • The three-columned themes (meaning left and right sidebars) that are nice barely exist on WP – I think you found the nicest one. HMO also has a nice one. But for free? I haven’t found anything better.

      • There’s some pretty bad ones out there, eh? Yeesh. But did you see the one that makes your screen look like a really old Mac OS screen? I was really tempted by that one! 😉

        • There’s one that is a wall of pics, reminiscent of a windows 8 home screen. Fugly! I like clean lines and readable text on my blog. It would be nice if I could do some customization, but I am not willing to shell out for it.
