Fully Completely Torn

Thanks to Deke for pointing out that the Tragically Hip will be re-releasing their seminal Fully Completely album next month. This, in itself, is great news! I love that album, as do millions of others.

The thing is, they’re releasing three versions of it, in varying loads of content, and I want them all!

1) 2CD Deluxe (8-panel digipak) [$9.99]

– album remastered, with 2 previously unreleased studio tracks
– live album from Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto 1992-09-13

2) Super Deluxe [$49.99]

– all of 1), plus…
– DVD of Heksenketel 1993 tour documentary
– 5 lithographs
– hardcover book with photos, artwork, band recollections, etc

3) 180g Vinyl [$24.99]

– includes 2 bonus tracks same as CD versions
– does NOT include vinyl of live Horseshoe show

So. For me it goes like this:

1) would make me very, very happy. Truth to tell, this is all most people would need. It’s also a total fuckin’ steal at $10.

2) would send me over the moon. Mostly for the included DVD. That Heksenketel has been out of print so long, I’m drooling just thinking about it. This is definitely be the most expensive option, but it would also be totally, totally worth it.

3) given how rare (and therefore expensive) original Hip vinyl is, this would be a very, very pleasing option. Example: I looked it up on Discogs tonight. The cheapest original vinyl of this album listed is $225 CDN (€160)! NB: Anyone reading this, if you happen across Tragically Hip vinyl in your local shop at a reasonable price BUY IT AND I WILL PAY YOU BACK! Thanks! 🙂 I wish they’d included the live album in this, made it a double vinyl.

DAMMIT!

All three of these options are great. I want them all.

What would you do?

      Ummmm… lemme think for a minute…

Haha. But the vinyl hasn’t got the live album with it. If I went vinyl, I’d probably be buying the CD to go with it anyway, for the live show.

Yeah I’m leaning that way too, if finances allow. Because I sure do love me some Hip. Have done since… 1993? Long time, anyway.

1537 was pointing out that the vinyl would be his choice (go figure), but it hasn’t got the live album. So $25 for the vinyl, and $10 for the 2CD would cover almost all of it for $25… except you wouldn’t get the DVD, lithographs or the hardcover book. Hm.

Sweet. Now, So Hard Done By appeared on the next record, Day For Night… so i wonder if it’s an early demo version or something. Cooler if it sounded nothing like the one we know from DFN!

Oh yeah I forgot that it was on DFN….interesting. The set slide from the club show looks like a cooker ….
Man that’s the selling point right there..now reissue those first two studio records! With Crack My Spine Like A Whip!!!

Oh for sure, totally agree. The live disc alone would be worth more than $10 to me. Agreed on the other records. Give us the Killer Whale Tank version of New Orleans Is Sinking with the UTH re-release!

Oh for sure! And it’s the logical place to start – that was where the most people jumped on board.

And now I will totally tax my memory (I probably shouldn’t even start this story because the specifics are vague):

You know, somewhere in the collection I have a 2CD of Day For Night. It was a re-release. I don’t even know if it was a remaster, but the second disc was an enhanced CD for the computer (I think it had videos on it?). I only ever saw that one copy, in a used CD shop, so I snapped it up just because it was not something I’d known existed. I have no idea if they did all the other albums that same way. If they did, there sure wasn’t any fanfare about them that I can remember.

Ha just updated the post to include the prices I found on their web site. Your option (1) is a total steal at $10! I dunno if the super is worth $50… I’d lean more towards yes if the don’t release the Heksenketel DVD separately. The vinyl at $25 is also a nice price…

      DAMMIT!
