Google Translate: Classic Canadian Edition

Here we go with a couple more, for your amusement. Some classic Canuck artist reimaginings…

Leonard Cohen’s Bird On A Wire, done English-Japanese-English…

Actual Lyrics:

Like a bird on the wire,
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.
Like a worm on a hook,
Like a knight from some old fashioned book
I have saved all my ribbons for thee.

If I, if I have been unkind,
I hope that you can just let it go by.
If I, if I have been untrue
I hope you know it was never to you.

Resulting Lyrics:

Like a bird on the wire,
Similarly Tsu drunk in the choir of midnight
I have tried in my way is that it is free.
As well as on-hook worms,
As a knight from the book of old-fashioned some
I have to save the ribbon of my all for you .

In my case , if I was unkind,
I , you hope that you can let go with it.
And I would , if I was the truth,
Hope you know was not to you it me.

Gordon Lightfoot’s The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald, done English-Somali-English…

Actual Lyrics:

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called ‘Gitche Gumee’
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty.
That good ship and crew was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early.

Resulting Lyrics:

Former residents of Chippewa under
Great sea they called ” Gitche Gumee ‘
Lake , and it is said , never gives up her dead
When air November be upset with
With the load of iron ore twenty-six thousand metric more
The Edmund Fitzgerald were weighed empty .
That good ship and crew was a bone to chew
In November came the first of the block .

Joni Mitchell’s A Case Of You, done English-Latin-English…

Actual Lyrics:

Just before our love got lost you said,
“I am as constant as a northern star.”
And I said, “Constantly in the darkness,
Where’s that at?
If you want me I’ll be in the bar.”

On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada
Oh, Canada
With your face sketched on it twice.

Oh, you’re in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet.

Resulting Lyrics:

I forgot you said before , our
“I, like a constant Borealis star”
And I said: “Always in the dark
Where’s that at?
If you are in me, and I will be the bar ”

On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue light of the TV screen
I drew a map of Canada
Oh, Canada
Twice in the face , such as

Oh , you, as the wine into his blood
So sweet and sour taste
Oh my darling drink
I was on my feet yet
woe is me upon my feet, as far as

Oh Canada, indeed!

  1. Oh man The Wreck was played many a time at 2 am after Highschool drinking parties man your making me flashback! Hahaha…..

    • Excellent. We know our job here at the KMA is being done properly when we can induce high school flashbacks.

In order to finish our Quality Assurance Survey, could you answer the question, please, of whether your flashback was of the song’s actual lyrics, or the mis-translated messed up version? At any time during your flashback, do you recall the words “That good ship and crew was a bone to chew / In November came the first of the block”?

Hahaha oh man you should me grinning, typing this. I can’t even do this with a straight face.
