Amazon Top Ten Sellers List
I had occasion to be on Amazon today, just digging around for Christmas deals, and my eye was once again drawn to the Top Ten Best Sellers in Music, updated hourly. As of 11:25 this morning, James’ theory that the young kids aren’t buying physical media (not as much as us old dinosaurs want to do) seems to be holding true. The oldsters are still winning in this list!
[NB. All are CD – no vinyls on the list at this hour].
01 – Bob Dylan – The Basement Tapes Complete: Bootleg Series #11
02 – Led Zeppelin – IV (Deluxe RM 2CD)
03 – Led Zeppelin – Houses Of The Holy (Deluxe RM 2CD)
04 – Robert Plant – lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar
05 – Ed Sheeran – X (Deluxe Edition)
06 – Barbara Streisand – Duets
07 – Kelly Clarkson – Wrapped In Red
08 – Carole King – Tapestry
09 – Neil Diamond – The Very Best Of Neil Diamond
10 – John Denver – Rocky Mountain Christmas
So. That’s 20% people under the age of 60 (Ed Sheeran, Kelly Clarkson). 20% Christmas albums (I might have guessed more, in the run-up to the holidays, but maybe I’m too early in that thinking). And one surprise (to me). Tapestry? Really? How is that a Top Ten Seller right now? It’s not a Christmas album, I wouldn’t think… are that many people buying it as gifts? Do people just love to listen to Carole King in the wintertime? It’s only $8, so it’s not a fancy-pants deluxe edition (though it is remastered)… I just can’t guess why it’s on here right now, that’s an odd one, to me.
It’ll be interesting to watch this list on the run-up to Christmas. I’d wager that at some point soon, probably by the first of December, almost this whole list will be Christmas albums, which makes sense.
Anyway, aren’t you glad I show you these things? OF COURSE YOU ARE!
