Christmas 2014, Pt. 2

We spend the holidays at our parental units’ places, so we try to do Christmas a little early at our house. We chose yesterday morning to start the festivities!

And now it’s time to talk about my lovely gifts from my lovely wife!

First up, some fantabulous music.

neil and br

Yes, that’s the deluxe 2CD edition of the newest Neil Young album, Storytone! It looks awesome. The first CD contains 10 songs, some done with a 92 piece orchestra, choir, some with a 6o piece orchestra, and three with a big band. The second CD is those some 10 songs done solo by Neil. Gonna be AWESOME! I’ve really enjoyed how creative Neil has gotten with his releases, in the last few years. This one stands a good chance of being freaking fantastic.

And yep, that second one is the new Blue Rodeo release,  Christmas album. But Aaron, you say, you hate Christmas music! Generaly, yes. But I do love Blue Rodeo. Love love love Blue Rodeo. So they might get a pass, we’ll see! 🙂 My lovely wife said she feels like she oughta make this a tradition, knowing my feeling on Christmas music as she does. As you’ll likely recall, last year, she got me the brilliant Wynton Marsalis Christmas album (which came packed with Bing Crosby’s White Christmas, but we won’t talk about that). I do love me some Wynton Marsalis. And this year, Blue Rodeo… When I balked at the idea, she said not to worry, she’d try to make it only artists I can stand. Oh dear. What will Christmas 2015 hold? I can only begin to imagine! Anyway yeah! I got new Blue Rodeo!

Of course, you can expect reviews of both of these sets, in these pages, as soon as I’ve played them enough to feel like I’ve got a handle on them.

  1. Hooray for the lovely gifts from the lovely wife!

  2. Blue Rodeo CHRISTMAS? Aaron you’re going to have to listen to Christmas music for reals, dude! I have no doubt it will be good. Blue Rodeo are my favourite non-metal band ever. They will do it up right!

    • Haha I know, right? Well, every record they do sounds just like them, so at the very least if the Christmas part of it pisses me off, it will still have that sweet, sweet BR sound!

Very much looking forward to the Neil Young, too. If I hadn’t got that one for Christmas I’d have been buying it for sure. But apparently I drooled about it enough, around the house leading up to Christmas, that she gave in! (I say gave in because she can’t stand his voice, so good on her for getting it for me!)

      • I think it’s great you got the Blue Rodeo BEFORE Christmas. By Dec 26 I’m so burned out on Christmas music, I don’t want to hear one more song. Maybe you can get a review up for the big day? Is that in the cards?

        • Yeah, we do our family Christmas, here at the house, early every year. Save lugging all the kids’ stuff home, then lugging it all back here – and top of all the loot they get from their over-excited grandparents (they’re the only grandkids on both sides). And by the way, my boy LOVES the Lego. He spent all afternoon playing with it, yesterday. Thanks so much again for picking that up for us!! You rock!

It sure is in the cards to review this before Christmas. The only thing preventing that from happening is that I have both kids at home with me for the next two days (my boy’s done school and my lovely wife still has to work) so it could be pretty frickin’ busy around here! I’ll be outnumbered! (I love it).

        • Our daughter loved her Lego too, but she’s 3, so she also had great fun with the cardboard box. You know how it is.

  3. Gotta pull out my all time Xmas album….Rush/Exit Stage Left! (There’s a story there!)

  4. Hahahaha…I do mention a snip of it on my Signals review from vinyl.that Young one looks real good!

    • Headed back to September on yer blog…

The vinyls from James are AWESOME!! He’s da man.

I’m very much looking forward to the Young album. The 2CD set is the only way to go. Who’d want to only have of the story (the 1CD)?
