Still bringing the goodness found at Sonic Boom in Toronto in June…
Bad Religion – The Gray Race
First off, I can’t believe Sonic Boom was selling this off for $2.99! What a steal! They totally undersold it. Oh well, score for me!
What can I say that I haven’t already said about Bad Religion? It’s fast, it’s tight, it’s political and personal, it requires you to think, it’s awesome and fun and also quite capable of making you angry when you realize they’re right about so much that’s shitty in the world…
I liked this album a whole lot. It’s chock full of great BR riffs, that blistering pace, and all those incisive lyrics. So I was a bit surprised to discover that reviews on Amazon included so many bad reviews. One even called this one Awful Religion. Haha what? Are we listening to the same thing? Well, I suppose some people want them to keep making the same record they made in 1982 over and over again. Yeah, well, ain’t gonna happen. It’s OK not to like it, to each theit own, but I didn’t hear anything here that was as bad as all that! In fact, I thought it was fun!
The only other connection I have to this album is from when my buddy Wilf and I went to see them in concert a couple of years ago, he told me that he is quite tired of the song A Walk (from this album). He said he’s heard it too often, so when they play it in concert, that’s when he heads to the bathroom to take a leak. And, during the show we were at, that’s exactly what he did! Haha. Myself, I like that song, so I stayed! Also, that’s gotta be a pretty quick bathroom break because that song, on the album, is only 2:14 long, and in concert it’s likely to be faster than that..
Lots to love about this record. Give ‘er!

Incredible how Bad Religion have lasted the years!

They are one helluva great story!
