I am breaking my once-per-week system here, because Boppin’s Blog has nominated lil’ ‘ol me for this intriguing challenge. Thank you, sir!
This is a really cool concept too. It doesn’t specify a time limit, like “I Will Do These Five Things In Five Years, or Ten Years,” or whatever. It’s just at some point in your life, do these things (of your own choosing). Way less stress, that way! So it’s basically a bucket list. Of course, since this is a music site, and since music really is what keeps me alive (ahem), all of my choices will be music-related.
So here’s how it rolls out. The rules are:
- Thank the blogger who nominated you. (That’s an easy one – THANKS, DUDE!)
- Link back to the challenge creator Boppin’s Blog to track progress.
- Share 5 things about your future. Then one day you can look back and see how psychic you are.
- Tag 5 bloggers and put them up to the challenge.

5 Things About My Future:
- I will encourage both of my kids towards a) the enjoyment (and possible collection) of music, and b) the playing (creation) of music in their own lives…*
- I will travel to Japan and shop for records in Tokyo until I drop. I will also visit Fuji-san, many temples, and Musashi’s cave at Reigandō.
- I will own an official Fender Telecaster, blonde with a maple neck. I’m going for my own Micawber, here. Bonus points if it is vintage. Double bonus points if it was manufactured in the year of my birth.
- I will travel to wherever possible to see Robert Pollard perform in concert (at least once).
- I will write one song I know is good enough to be a hit.
* Is this one cheating? ‘Cos it’s totally what I’ll do anyway even without this challenge… 🙂

The way you’ve worded #5’s especially good – if it becomes a hit, great! If it doesn’t, it means you were underappreciated in your time, which is also a compliment/testament to the greatness of the song in my books.

Ha thanks Geoff! It’s true, the song comes first. Popularity might come, it might not, but if it doesn’t resonate with me (as the writer) sitting here alone in my living room, what does it matter what others think? Aiming at that core power, baby, yeah! 🙂
I also think a blonde Telecaster would help the writing process. Perhaps #3 ought to be my first focus, then #5! 🙂

Really! Well, that’s OK too, if you’re sure. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone’s lists, but my own still really needs a serious paring down. Getting things to only 15 is rather difficult!

I too find the top 15 difficult. I have a strategy though. I made my list back when we committed to it, but then I saved it and tucked it away. As we get closer to the 15th, I’ll open the file and review – see how I feel about my list a month later and make any changes I am not feeling. I’m hoping this will lead to a top 15 list that I can be proud of!

Thanks Danica! I suppose #5 could be taken a bit further and say after I have it written, submit it for use/publication. Let the royalties roll in ! 🙂 As for Japan, it’s my top travel spot, for sure. I could probably spend a whole year over there and not see everything I want to see!

I have never been to Japan. Not yet, anyways! The further east of here I’ve ever been would probably be the beach on the North Sea at St. Andrews in Scotland. And the furthest west would probably be the beach on the Pacific at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I like beaches! 🙂

Actually, I wanted to travel to Japan for my lovely wife and I’s tenth wedding anniversary a couple of years ago, but that was right around the time of the tsunami and nuclear reactor problems, and she really balked at it. She said that it would be like inviting yourself into the home of someone who’s just endured a house fire and expecting them to make you dinner. I knew she was right, but also said they’d be thrilled to see us and our tourist dollars in troubled times… Also, in her argument she never mentioned the threat of Godzilla which, given the circumstances I found that odd… 🙂 Anyway, we didn’t go because we couldn’t afford it anyway. SOMEDAY!

That was a great idea for your 10th anniversary! Your wife raised some good points though. Godzilla! That still has to be the biggest threat, doesn’t it? Where is King Kong these days?
Maybe you can make it there for your 15th.

Thanks! Yeah we had several good ideas for travel for that one. Japan was still my first choice, though. Montreal is always a good fall-back too. I do love that town.
Our 15th will be in 2018, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility. 2023 for the 20th gives us even more time to save, though. I hear it can get expensive, over there…

You must be right that it could get expensive pretty quickly. Have you checked out sites like Lonely Planet? Travellers share info on how to reduce costs and recommend best times to travel, places to stay, etc. There are also forums where you can ask more specific questions.
Montreal is always a great choice too!

Yeah I’d totally check out how to do as much as possible on the lower side of cost… unless I win the big one. And THEN we’ll be doing it up right!
We lived in Montreal for two years, and the city got into my blood. We’ve been back several times since, and I get the feeling I’ll always find a way to visit that place as much as I can.
