I figured, given her popularity, I’d better see what all the fuss was about as regards Adele. And you know what, I’m probably gonna be the odd man out here, but I thought this album wasn’t so hot.
Oh don’t get me wrong, the songs are soulful and well done. I have no issue with the music. It’s Adele’s voice that drove me nuts more often than not. Sometimes it worked, and I said hell yeah! And other times it had that breaking wannabe r&b crap that people think is powerful singing and I just think it sounds like shit. There are tracks where she nails it smoothly, and others where she messes with the timing in her singing, and it all sounds crammed in and clunky.
She’s too harsh to be Norah Jones, not dirty enough to be Amy Winehouse, and there ain’t nobody soars like Aretha. Adele’s there, but it sounds forced and, sometimes, atonal. I dunno, this is her first record, maybe she gets better on later efforts. Not that I could do better, I’m just saying.
I didn’t hate this, maybe half of the tracks were ok enough, but the rest just gave me a headache.
Mnah. Never ticked any boxes for me. I believe I read recently that she wasn’t too pleased witn Damon Albarn suggesting her stuff was a bit dull?

She’d have been better to say “Who? Damian All Barn?”
Sorry, not a Blur fan here, so if he said something like that to me it’d be pretty easy to say “whatevs.”

I like Damian All Bran – a bit cardboard.
But I like some Blur stuff and I honestly think Gorillaz is genius. Plus, The Good, The Bad & The Queen is very good also … so if he suggests that Adele’s stuff is a tad dull I tend to agree.
Besides, Neol Gallacher agrees. I think he called her “music for grannies!”

I’m in the same boat as Mike…only know of her hits. My mom shocked me when she told me my stepdad tried to get her tix to Adele in October! She is 76! So she has some demographic appeal!

My buddy got Adele tix for Taranna for his lovely wife and they were EXPENSIVE. Ah well, I’m sure they’ll have fun.
My Mom asked for all three records for Christmas and she’s not quite 70 so, yeah, maybe there is a demographic there. Then again, when was the last time Rod Stewart put out a CD of shitey standards? Maybe they’re just trying to fill the Rod Stewart gap?

My mom is the proud owner of the new Adele album, but I can’t say I know anything except her hits. They have all been excellent, but it sounds like her albums might be a bit filler-y?

My Mom wanted ALL of the Adele albums for Christmas, so I suppose I have access to the others too.
This probably just hit me wrong. Millions of people can’t be wrong, can they? Hahaha of course they can.
I recognized Chasing Pavements from this album and didn’t like it. I dunno, it sounds to me like she’s putting it on, it’s forced somehow. Like she learned to sing that way, not properly, or something, because that separates her from others or some crap.
As for filler, I’d say if you like the singles, you’d like the rest. It’s just more of the same. I dunno. To each their own. I’m glad people dig it. And I dug about half of it, give or take, so it’s not a total bomb.
