Aerosmith – Music From Another Dimension

Aerosmith in 2012? Well, for $2 at the thrift shop, why not.

Lots of cool rockers here, like the Stones riff of Oh Yeah, and the charging train of Street Jesus. Out Go The Lights is pure throwback cowbell Aero.

But the ballads, holy hell… I lost count of them, honestly, just waaay too many. I mean, I get it, those seem to be popular with people. But they all sound the same. So listen up, Aero boys, if you absolutely must have ballads on your record, just have one on there. Maybe two (tops). After that, it makes for a shitty listen.

I could cut this album to a solid nine or ten tracks from its bloated 15. I’d drop the boring Carrie Underwood duet and at least 4 of the ballads. Doesn’t matter which, just drop them.

Half decent!

  1. Well I paid more than $2 for Music! You guys are right theres some crud! WTF is it with bands trying to crossover into the country market like Aero and Def Leppard with that Hee Haw McGraw track..Meh!
There are some good things on here but I always dip into the Aero Catalogue as opposed to Aero Filler….
Nice short to the point post Mr Books!

    • You just wait until I drop my Def Leppard/Taylor Swift DVD review. It’s been sitting on my pile for two months but I haven’t had the guts to pop it in.

    • Thanks Deke! I said at the new year I wanna try and be concise yet still say what needs saying… and then I go and drop a long bomber about Amazon! Gah.

I imagine it’s the labels doing the crossovers, trying to sell as many records as possible. Same as ever.

Anyway, MFAD has some strong songs, but a whole lotta crap too.

  2. Yep. I fully agree. I reviewed the deluxe when it came out. It at least had a couple more interesting tracks on it. But delete the ballads and the crud, and this could have been a solid LP-length CD.

    • I really liked some of the songs but there was A LOT of filler. Ah well, I suppose they don’t have anything to prove to anyone anymore. Glad I got it right with this one – if my review agrees with yours (I’d call you an Aero-expert, compared to me), I must be doing something right!

      • I was a bit more verbose but yes, we’re basically on the same track.

Some members of the band feel they have something to prove. Joe Perry and Brad Whitford have both expressed interest in doing an album the old fashioned way, just to prove they still can, and go out with a quality album. But I am certain that this won’t happen. They tried with this album and it took like 7 years to come out because of issues with the singer!
