A.F.I. – Crash Love

A $2 thrift shop find ages ago, and it’s even the 2CD bonus edition with extra tracks and video content. Lucky me? I put it on high volume in the good headphones to find out.

Here we have a survey of all the tricks of that quiet/loud thing that was massive in the 90s pop/punk/rock scene (but this is from 2009!). Online, there seems to be a divide amongst AFI fans, between those who prefer the old stuff and those who like this new stuff too (this is their 8th album).

Myself, I haven’t heard AFI since those old punk compilation CDs I used to collect ages ago. This ain’t that. But good on them for growing and doing what they like, I guess.

Meh.

When AFI were really mainstream in the early 2000’s, I bought one album of theirs. And I admit it: it’s fucking good. It’s like punk-metal-pop-metal. Sing the Sorrow, it is called. I haven’t played it in ages though! I have zero interest in their other stuff basically.

It’s weird. I remember really liking their tracks on those old punk comps (I remember one CD they were on called Go Ahead Punk, Make My Day. That one also had Offspring covering Hey Joe). Anyway, maybe they’re a one track at a time kind of band?

Yeah! Although there was a jump from $1.99 to $2.99 a while back (I believe I ranted about it, in these pages). But this one was from long enough ago that it was $2 when I got it.

And I’m glad I didn’t spend more than $2 on it. Ah well!
