I love this 1996 EP from the Hives. This is very early days (right after their 1994 Sounds Like Sushi demo tape). They sound more like NOFX and Face To Face than they do the cleaner, more radio-friendly, hit-making version of themselves that they displayed with their full length, Veni, Vidi, Vicious (2000) and onward. I suppose Barely Legal (1997) would be a nice mid-way between the two. Hear a band develop right before your ears!
The pure punk songs here are short, dirty, angry, and loud. Just like I like it. Don’t get me wrong, I like the hit song Hives too, but there’s something really satisfying in the young punk grit on this EP.
A little research online shows it’s available on Discogs, but at prices I’d consider for collectors only given how short the thing is (all 6 songs total 11:58). There’s one copy on the Canuck Amazon at $425. Haha fools.
If you see this in the shops, get it for the glorious punk blast that it is!
