The Best Fucking Collaboration Week Ever!, Pt.2: Killer Dwarves – Reunion Of Scribes: Live 2001
Hey folks! It’s The Best Fucking Collaboration Week Ever, Pt. 2! Just like last time, Mike and Aaron will be doing simultaneous daily reviews of albums. This time, they’re covering stuff these two intrepid music reporters have sent to each other. Buckle up, buttercups, it’s gonna be a blast!
You’ve gotta go read Mike’s post about this. Go! Go! GO!

This is another one I found at the thrift shop and sent to Mike. I think it was still in the shrinkwrap too… Anyway, he said he didn’t already have it, so away it went to him.
It was nice to hear all those acoustic tunes from the Russ Dwarf acoustic album, which we covered a couple of days ago, done up as full-on rock songs! Haha. This is a live reunion concert disc from August of 2001, recorded in Toronto. The internet tells me this is a reunion of the original line-up.
I really liked this CD, in that it rocks and it was probably very loud in that room. Russ’ voice cuts through with power, though he really sounds like a more powerful Vince Neil (try Stand Tall). Once I heard it, I couldn’t unhear it! Vince probably wishes he could still do that, at this point! I like that it has the feel of the real live experience, like you were standing right there watching. And sure, the sound is maybe a little thin somehow (I’m no producer, but I could notice it didn’t breathe very well. Needed more bass).
But never mind, those are small quibbles compared to the big rawk songs played by a band giving it everything. Killer Dwarfs seem to be a solid outfit with rawkin’ on their minds, and they deliver ably. This was fun to hear, good times!
The Tracks:
Dirty Weapons / Stand Tall / I’m Alive / Believe In Me / Startin’ To Shine / Last Laugh / All That We Dream / Doesn’t Matter / Hard Luck Town / Nothin’ Gets Nothin’ / Union Of Pride / Keep The Spirit Alive / Comin’ Through

I thought this was sonically pretty lacking. I’m sure it was better in that room! Too bad the audio here was so…thin?

Another thought: When he yells TORONTO! you know that the crowd would yell back but you don’t hear it on the CD… so what if they sacrificed sound quality when they were trying to remove the crowd noise from the recording?

Either that or the show was just plain not recorded well. Who knows where they placed the mics.

You saw this show, so you can confirm for us that the sound was better at the show than it was on this CD?
