The Taranna Was Hot Series: Part 18/25
Got this CD/DVD from the 3-for-$10 bin at BMV. Spektor’s like Bjork, Tori Amos, and Fiona Apple, but she’s entirely her own too. Her voice here is powerful and unique, her piano playing is stellar, her strong lyrics restless and poetic.
Soviet Kitsch is quirky and playful, almost blindingly creative and inventive. You never know what’s coming next, so you’re held riveted the entire time. Recommended to all.
DVD includes a cool 16 minute short film, and a song video.
I have the first ‘album’ of hers – Mary Ann Meets The Grave Diggers. It was fairly decent, but I was never really sold on it and never explored further.

I’ve never even seen that one before! Hm, you may like her collaborations with Billy Childish… if you can find them, that is! I have a hard time finding anything with that guy’s name on it, around these parts.

That’s a pretty impressive trio to be among – and original sound too, bonus!

Awesome thanks Dude! I have done one other record of hers, way back in 2007.

I love what she did with the Orange is the New Black opening song!

I didn’t know she did that! I’ve heard one other record of hers, Begin To Hope, and it’s great too. I’d buy her records with confidence!

She also did the theme to Weeds. She likes to collaborate with Jenji Kohan

Thanks! I had to look up who Kohan is… now I know! 🙂

WEEDS! Shit, so I do know her music!!
I stopped watching after they moved out of town. I liked it, but it drifted away from the stories I enjoyed at the start.
