Holly Golightly – Slowly But Surely

The Taranna Was Hot Series: Part 21/25 (Sonic Boom, $2.99)

Holly Golightly rules. I buy her discs whenever I see them. Equal parts Patsy Cline country, psychedelic 60s a la Petula Clark or Nancy Sinatra, and Nina Simone and Billie Holiday jazzy blues. The sound is incredibly good, roomy tube amp glory that allows these clear-eyed songs of love lost and hearts broken the space to breathe and reveal their true beauty. Even when the whole thing ends with death, as it does for all, you know it’ll be OK.

Thanks Mike, that’s me – all full of pith and vinegar… I’m really enjoying trying to keep things tight. 200 words is too many, by far!

This is a really good record, just like all the rest of her stuff. Recommended artist!

Aw shucks, thanks dude. This is fun. As for a knack, I dunno… and magazines? That’s mighty nice of you. I did attend journalism school for a while… Hm. Looking at it through that dusty ol’ lens, I’d have to leave out all of the personal stuff and just write about the record… Bet I could even get it under 80, on average, with 80 as an upper limit. 60? 50, even? I smell another challenge…
