Kudos to Bruce for this excellent banner!

Kudos to Bruce for this excellent banner!

Welcome to the massive group effort Film [Soundtrack] Festival! From November 1-14, we’re covering all sorts of movie soundtracks. There’ll surely be lots for everybody! Huge thanks to Bruce at THE VINYL CONNECTION for this fantastic group post idea! COMMUNITY!

 Check out THIS PAGE for all the entries.

It’s been ages since I saw the film Dragon, but I remember connecting to the instrumental score*, the inspirational and beautiful music suiting the story adeptly.

Randy Edelman’s orchestra and synths score all but one track here, thematically taking us through every emotion with control and understanding. Tacked to the end is Lynn Ray’s cheesy The Hong Kong Cha Cha, which kills the mood. I’d have left that off, for sure.

An excellent score, no question.

* Is “instrumental score” redundant?

  1. “Instrumental score” is indeed redundant. Good call!

    I used to like this movie, I should see it again. I remember it being a bit silly but still a proverbial “good action movie”.

  2. EarthGround

    Earth ground is a similar phrase as instrumental score. Redundant communication adds clarity in some cases but is annoying when repeated to specialists? “Hey could you get me a copy of the instrumental score.”

    Is score just the notes in time? If I just reproduce the tones, without an instrument, (natural field processed) it is still the score played out?

    Ground is ground. Chassis or frame bonding is not technically ground so earth comes to bear. How has the meaning score evolved pertaining to music? I don’t know.

    Is there a non-instrumental score? How did ground get to mean something other than Earthing an electode and bonding to it? Vehicles necessitated it?

  3. Saw the movie years ago, have yet to check out the ‘instrumental’ score!
    Incidentally, excellent KMA site banner quote!
