Here’s another one I rocked in the Man Cave this weekend…
Sunday Man Cave Series, Part 2
I’m probably losing cred here, but I love this album. I know people who have no time for Green Day at all. They say three chord pop punk is shite, and just bash it mercilessly. Me, I just listen and nod but don’t try to defend it. There’s no point, with those folks.
Listen closely, though, and hear how tight and cleverly-crafted it is.
I say it’s just unabashed, smartly-played fun, so crank it!
This record has some damn fine drumming on it! I’m not what you’d call a Green Day fan (I don’t own any) but I have played most of the albums and liked what I heard. Dookie was pretty awesome for its time.
Did you see that Green Day are releasing all their albums…on cassette? With a boom box to play them on!

I love Tre Cool’s drumming, great point. Awesome energy and feel, not just the machine gun of a lot of punk drummers. He swings too!
You don’t own any Green Day? Huh. I can’t imagine such a world! 🙂
I hadn’t seen the thing about the cassettes and boombox, but that’s pretty on the nose. Well-played, Green Day!

Well Jen has Dookie and a few others so I never really felt the need, but I’m getting to the point where I may need to change that.
The boombox thing is neat! And for a lot of these albums it’s their first ever cassette release.

Like this one a lot… pretty splendid album. I’m with Joe about Insomniac. That album is quite brilliant. Easily their best.

I dunno if I ever considered one better than the other, that period is all one big happy pile for me. Insomniac is indeed a good record. I remember buying it as new release!

It got into it after weeks of my brother playing it and telling me how great it was. Prior to that I was only really familiar with Basket Case and Welcome To Paradise.
Insomniac was the moment I paid attention to Green Day. Enjoyed Dookie a whole lot, but never cared much for what came before it. Not what came after Insomniac. Few good tracks, but nothing really hit me.

Looks like you found the sweet spot in their career for you!
I liked Kerplunk! and 1,039 Slappy whatevers too. I played them and Offspring Ignition a lot!

I think so. Offspring I never really got into. They were a bit too slapstick for me… I had Smash (I think everyone did, eh?), but I thought they were a tad overrated.

Yeah everyne had Smash, I’m pretty sure. The two that came before it were cool with me. After that I trailed off. I had one other… Americana? Something like that.

I think that was the one after Ixnay… rotten album. But then, I didn’t like them to begin with!

Oh yeah, I had Ixnay too! Totally memorable, apparently! I’d stick with the first three (S/T, Ignition, and Smash) myself.

Some great tunes here, always loved ‘she’!

Oh whew! Glad my cred survived. I imagine it won’t take long for me to cough up a hairball, though! hahaha
She’s a great one. Lots of cool tunes on here. Even the goof-off hidden track!

I was all by myself – forgot about that, I’d say Top 5 secret track material!

Yup, right up there with the ‘carrot apocalypse’ at the end of Tool’s Undertow!
Man, I taught myself to play that Dookie hidden track ages ago but it didn’t stay in the repertoire. Just a silly thing, to be sure.

This is classic Green Day. Love this album.

Agreed, and thanks! So far I’m getting nothing but love for this one. Maybe it’s just the people I know here who have a problem with it! 😉

Brilliant LP this, although I’d say their next one was better still.

Oh whew, thanks Deke! hahaha I think it got easy to hate on these guys, but people forget how EVERYWHERE this record was at the time. I had 1,039 Slappy whatever and Kerplunk then, too (still have one of ’em today!) and went as far as about Nimrod or so before losing track.
Did you ever hear Weird Al’s version, Canadian Idiot? Hahaha!
