Jane’s Addiction – Strays

Here’s another one I found at Sonic Boom for (a mere) $3…

The 5th Annual Toronto Expedition Series, Part 41 (CD/DVD)

Jane’s third record, they replaced bassist Martyn LeNoble with Chris Chaney. Perry Farrell stated they “went into the studio thinking fast, hard, modern and to the point.” Detractors called it nu-metal, but I don’t quite get that out of it. Jane’s always had that in their sound. This record sounds good to me!

The included DVD has a half hour of live, studio, and interview footage.

It’s not Ritual, nor should it be. Cool beans!

  1. As a fan I really didn’t like this one apart from ‘Just Because’ and the one about natural pleasures (can’t remember the title) they started to sound like the Chilis as well (who I know you like). Broke my heart because Kettle Whistle had been so excellent- you got that one? Rollins did the liner notes!

  2. I thought this was a good album, but it’s not a Jane’s Addiction album. Just doesn’t have that same spirit. Few great tracks, though (Just Because, True Nature… in fact it goes downhill from The Riches).

I guess what I’m saying is I’m with Joe; this was a big disappointment after Kettle Whistle. Not a bad album, though… and definitely not nu-metal or as bad as the Chuli Peppers (behave yourself, Mr 1537!).

  3. I hear that “nu metal” vibe, but it’s really just a small part of the album!
