I had Simple Minds, as a kid, and hearing this disc now is like being zapped back to the 80s in a time machine. Fantastic!
This collection covers just about everything the casual fan would ever need, all the big hits like (Don’t You) Forget About Me, Alive And Kicking, Sanctify Yourself, as well as Mandela Day, Belfast Child, Someone, Somewhere In Summertime, Promised You A Miracle… so many more…
This still sounds great, get your own copy today!
Somehow as a kid I always confused these guys with Simply Red!

I have mixed feelings about this lot – they were the big band when I was at school, but I LOVE ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’, it’s just a perfect song.

So was it their fame that put you off? Or did you only like the one track?

No, I like a few – Sanctify yourself, Waterfront and New gold dream particularly, it’s just that I never needed to buy any because they were just everywhere then.

Happily, it turns out that this one is also easily affordable on UK LP from Discogs. Then you could have your own!

A pretty splendid band (being from the greatest city in the world, obviously).

Spoken like a true Weegie! Hahaha. I shouldn’t laugh, I’ve been to your fine city, twice in my life, and found the parts that I saw were quite lovely indeed!

Quite lovely? You mean it was clear you were visiting the greatest city in the world, yeah? 😉

Haha well I dunno, man. We visited a lot of nice places, during my tours through your country, but your city did feel pretty awesome. I liked it better than Auld Reekie…

Auld Reekie isn’t a patch on Glasgow…

I did truly have a better time in Glasgow. Granted, I spent more time there than in Auld Reekie, but I dunno. It just felt better somehow, more like where I could live rather than where I would just visit.

Yeah..these guys were all over MuchMusic in the mid 80s….almost to the point of over saturated ….

Yup they were pretty hard to ignore at one point… almost a U2 thing about them… without the annoying fucking Bono factor…

U2 are a poor man’s Simple Minds.

Wouldn’t the world be a better place if Simple Minds had gone on to U2-like proportions and Bono had just gone away?
