Saturday Steve Miller Band Hits Set 2-Fer!

Hey there, Dear Readers, and welcome to a 2-fer of Steve Miller Band hits sets! By the time we’re done, we’ll have covered from 1968-1978, which I’ve played recently all the way through myself. I’ll do both records at 80 words each.

Ready? Let’s give ‘er!

***

Collecting the best of 1968-73, this compilation is pure psychedelic, funky, swingin’, bluesy rockin’ fun. Groovy, fab, far out!

The Joker is here, and Space Cowboy, Gangster Of Love, Evil, and Robert Johnson’s Come On In My Kitchen. My Dark Hour’s intro has elements of Fly Like An Eagle’s intro in it. I loved Living In The U.S.A.’s “somebody get me a cheeseburger!”

This is a great overview of the early years. Recommended!

I’ve already covered this one right here, and I can narrow it down… Here’s all I need to say and you’ll know:

Swingtown / Jungle Love / Take The Money And Run / Rock ’n Me / Serenade / True Fine Love / The Stake / The Joker / Fly Like An Eagle / Threshold / Jet Airliner / Dance, Dance, Dance / Winter Time / Wild Mountain Honey.

Any questions? Haha man I think we all had/have this one in our collection. This is so classic it hurts.

  1. So classic it hurts! Yup Thats about it!
For my bashing of Greatest Hits sets this is all I need from Miller!
Space Cowboy did put on pretty decent set when he opened for Adams back in 92 which a bunch of us (including Mr Books ) saw…..

  2. I own the latter one, but not the early one. Your comments on the classic songs on the ’68-’73 compilation make me wonder why in the world I’ve overlooked it!

    • That early set is about all I need. I’m unlikely to buy up all the albums, so it’s a nice one-stop shop for me.

I had a quick look online, and it seems to be available rather cheaply and easily, so if you’re interested in it, I say give ‘er!

  3. Yikes. I don’t own any Steve Miller Band. Am I missing something, then? I’ve seen one of these cheap enough on LP. The early one, I think. Might pick it up next time I spot it then…

  4. Picked up a two-CD set with a similar cover to your second album. More later stuff, I guess.
The early one looks great – don’t often see those early Steve Miller albums about.

    • Agreed, I rarely see the early records, usually just Fly Like An Eagle…

Your 2CD set, does it have what you want from them on it? This early set I got is available cheaply if you want more early stuff!

  5. I have his Young Hearts comp. It covers both of these periods and beyond.

All the Stevie Guitar I will ever need.

  6. To borrow Rich’s series, Would you say Steve Miller’s a compilation artist rather than a full catalogue exploration required?

    Like

    • Oooo good question! I like Rich’s series too!

These guys? Hm. Honestly, for me, it’s a compilation band, so long as the compilation covers a lot of ground. These two seem to do that trick well.

Mind you, if anyone out there says “Nooooo they’re an album band!” then, even though I haven’t heard all the albums, I’d be hard-pressed to disagree. These guys had a lot of cool songs.

But yeah, for me? Solid comps win the day!
