Last night I sat and drifted with Pink Floyd’s track Wish You Were Here on repeat… an incredible tune from a classic album. Sometimes the timing of hearing a song just hits you right.
Cool info HERE.
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here
We’re just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
And how we found
The same old fears
Wish you were here

Floyd always did have some cool lyrics.

Indeed! That album in particular, being (as it was) about Syd.

Great tune. Ever hear the Catherine Wheel cover? Also quite good.

Not sure if I ever heard a recorded version of it, but I may have heard them play it live – we saw CW at a festival in the 90s but my memory of it now isn’t good enough to know if they did that song that day…

Sooooo jealous. I was dying to go to that festival, seeing as that it was just up the road from I was living, but I didn’t have the cash.

I didn’t have the cash either – my ticket was a birthday present from my girlfriend and my good buddy Brian. Helluva line-up that weekend!

Agreed. I was looking at it on Wikipedia recently and could only shake my head. It’s unfortunate the organizers could never do another.

Things devolved quickly on the third day, with the whole “special guest” thing falling through and the subsequent rampage of setting fires and the garbage fight on the hill as results. I doubt they foresaw such security issues.
If you type Edenfest into the KMA search box I’ve got the whole story in posts from a long while back. My favourite was the Saturday night – Odds, Porno For Pyros, Live and then the Hip. Oh man. And Buzzcocks on the second stage. Heaven.

The more you type on the subject, the more you make me jealous…

Oh dear, maybe don’t read the posts about it, then? 😉 You know, I went into that thing loking forward to a few bands (Sloan, the Hip, etc) and came away having sen 27 bands in three days, many of them good fun. The only one I didn’t dig was the Cure – we left. But that’s a personal preference. I’m sure thers thought they were great that night!
