Ozzy Osbourne – The Ultimate Sin

This is Ozzy’s fourth solo record, last to feature Jake E. Lee on guitar, first album for Randy Castillo on drums, and the only record to feature Phil Soussan on bass. I learned all this on the interwubs.

So of course I cranked this sucker, because OZZY. Every song has that Ozzy swagger and sound that you just can’t deny.

Some detractors say the songs over the course of the album are too same-y, and some say the production on this copy is a bit sketchy, but I didn’t have a problem with it. Mind you, my ear isn’t audiophile quality, but to me the sound is just fine, and the tunes are varied enough. You get the singles (the title track and Shot In The Dark, the latter is almost flirting with 80s pop/rock fighter jet movie soundtrack territory), plenty of solid rockers (mid to faster tempos), and even an epic like Killer Of Giants, which is one of my favourite tracks here.

I had good fun rocking this one!

I saw Ozzy on tour for this album and I have always liked it as well. It was the first album he made after his first stint in rehab so it was always going to be interesting. “Thank God for the Bomb” is my hidden gem.

You’re the second commenter on this post who saw this tour! Hot damn, that’s cool you got to see these tracks live. Hm, Ozzy after rehab makes Ultimate Sin. Hetfield after rehab makes St. Anger…

TGFTB is also a great track, nice one!

Yeah I was just thinking about that St. Anger movie, how the songs are about his looking at life and wondering… That’s not irony they opened for Ozzy, that’s fate! Also, one helluva rockin’ gig.

I need to review this one as well!
Secret Loser is a great track and Jake is great on the guitar and gets the co writing credits on this after he was shafted on Bark At The Moon(album)

Nice Metal writeup there Jazz Man!

Yes you need to review this – then a real metal fan with actual knowledge about it can weigh in! Deke, we need you! Give ‘er!

Speaking of, I just looked and Mike reviewed it in 2013…

I don’t know why there’s that infighting and people getting screwed over. If they played they get paid. If they wrote they get paid. Why is that so difficult? Egos, probably. IT just makes me tired.

Haha I am the Jazz Man. And Mr. Books! And… heck, I can slap these up here (I’m going for quick and dirty these days, nothing too in-depth), but I leave the real reviewing to you guys!

I’m not sure I ever listened to this one. I can probably count on both hands the number of non Randy Rhoads 80s Ozzy tunes I can recognize.
