KMA2444 It’s One Of Those RIP Kind Of Days
Yesterday, a co-worker left in a hurry as family had been called asap to be with their mother in hospice after over a year’s fight with cancer.
Also yesterday, we got news that Dolores O-Riordan (Cranberries, solo) passed away during a recording session in London. She was only 46.
And, of course, a few days ago, we lost the last remaining original Motörhead member when Fast Eddie Clarke died of pneumonia.
And so it goes.

It’s confirmed, 2018 will suck as much as the previous two years.

I hope 2018 is only off to a bad start but will pick up towards the end. I can’t take another like 2017!

As I said to 80smetalman, we’ll just have to see!

Realistically it’s only going to get worse – it is pretty amazing that it’s 2018 and we still have Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

“And, of course, a few days ago, we lost the last remaining original Motörhead member when Fast Eddie Clarke died of pneumonia.”
I recently saw a five-piece (two guitars, stand-up bass (of newfangled construction), funky percussion box, and female singer: they are an acoustic Motörhead cover band from the Netherlands. Why did I see them? I’m not a Motörhead fan and still am not (and am glad that Mickey Dee now has a better gig). They were the opening act for Maiden United, which is a Dutch Iron Maiden acoustic cover band with the truly awesome Damian Wilson singing. He’s mainly known for progressive-metal acts Headspace and Threshold, but also has a parallel career as a barstool singer-songwriter crooner. I’ve seen them several times. My kind of gig as well: comfy seats in a theatre! (Nevertheless, Wilson did stage-dive, which he also did at a singer-songwriter gig with an audience of about 25. Yes, I was there.) While I immediately recognize Maiden quality compared to Motörhead (which is a band which is pretty much the living (or, now, dead) cliche of negative stereotype about heavy metal), in an acoustic environment with good singers it is even more apparent. (For the record, I think that Dickinson—and the other two blokes—are fine singers, but Lemmy is not. The female singer was OK, which means much better than Lemmy. Damian Wilson is one of the best singers I’ve ever heard.)
Interestingly, Wilson once auditioned for Maiden after Bruce left. While I don’t think that Blaze is as bad as some claim, I can’t see why they didn’t go with Wilson. Or Dougie White, who also auditioned. White was also a guest at this special gig, as was Dennis Stratton who, interestingly, also played some Maiden songs from after his tenure with the band. Other guests were Frank Beck (singer with Gamma Ray) and Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear).
