By now we’ve all heard about the horrific Humboldt Broncos bus crash. As of this posting, now 16 people are confirmed dead.

Here are some tributes as folks deal with it all…

CB is not a great joiner inner (My gal, my 90 year old Ma and myself jersyied up) but this was close to home for so many reasons. Tough one for so many people. Starting with everyone on the bus and their loved ones. Then it goes from there.

I just watched all of those videos. That Tom Cochrane gets me. I’m not a cointry fan but the raw emotion that Paul Brandt shows is touching.
I never knew Rod Stewarts son plays hockey. Very cool indeed.
Ron Maclean absolutely rules. I’ve met him 3 times and he is one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting.

The Cochrane video is rough but also powerful. Man, oh man. You could tell how raw it was for him and for Brandt, for sure. I thought the Stewart was classy – I wondered if anyone would say “whuh?” seeing him there… Ron McLean also has to be hockey’s most patient man, sitting next to Cherry as he has for so many years. 😉

I have met Cherry and Mclean twice together . The most recent time I noticed Mclean is almost like the caregiver or the son.
Cherry is old.and forgetful and Ron always reminds him.
I bet they fix it up a bit on Coaches Corner but you can still tell Ron helps him out a lot.
A lot of people hate Don Cherry. I love him. A lot of his non pc stuff you have to take with a grain of salt. All older gen people are like him. He is no bullshit. Yes he’s a blabber mouth, but I still love him.

They’re like an old married couple, one compensating for the other in certain areas. I always liked Don, hell I used to vote for him in Federal elections. Probably I would feel different about him if I was Russian, though… 😉

One of your videos had a comment that the CBC should not show disrespect by placing ads in the video, or at tge very least donate the funds from the ads to the fundme.
CBC responded by dropping the ads right away.
Awesome how one person can affect change.

Sure is, glad to know people are participating! Sadly the only jersey I have here is so old and ratty it definitely ain’t good enough to be worn to work or in public, or anywhere. Actually it oughta be quarantined, fumigated, and put out of its misery…

We took a group photo at work. Unfortunately we should have got a different guy to take the picture. We were holding a Humboldt Broncos banner but it was crooked. You couldn’t see the logos on our jerseys. It was an awful photo unfortunately.

But I wore Jen’s original Leaf jersey, the one she wore to San Jose and was on Hockey Night in Canada with. This jersey right here:

I know you lived in Saskatchewan.
Did you ever travel through that intersection( hwy 35 & 335)?
I heard it was a dangerous intersection.
I saw a youtube video that showed large trees that would have obstructed the view of the semi driver.

I don’t think so? Not much reason for us to have been up that way… We did go up to Prince Albert but I don’t remember going east of there? Anything’s possible, I guess, but I doubt I’d remember a highway intersection anyway. Also, we’ve been here in Ontario 13 years now (holy crap) and I can’t remember all of last week…

James or his lovely wife might know better about that area, maybe?

I looked closer at the map, and we would have gone up 11 to Prince Albert, though I know we went off into Duck Lake for gas. But yeah we were kinda right in that neck of the woods, sort of, all those years ago.

The father of one of the boys was interviewed. He came upon the scene and police would not let him through.
He asked the cop how it could have happened.
He said the truck driver said the sun was in his eyes.
Both fathers agreed there was no way that was true.

The dad knew his son would have been at the front since he was a rookie.
He said in my head I knew he was gone. In my heart I hoped for the best, but I knew he was gone.

I was thinking of posting about this as well.

I watched the vigil in Humboldt on Sunday night. WOW!! Was it touching.

I heard someone mention the first responders on that scene. They will all support. Many would be volunteers. Hopefully they get the support they need.

Did you put out hockey sticks on your front porch as a tribute?

The tribites were great and so is the amazing amount of generosity in the gofundme account.
Over $8 million so far. Amazing.

You definitely should post about it, Bop. I missed the vigil but have seen enough coverage and videos and will keep watching. In that Ron interview at the bottom of this post, it’s mentioned folks were just sitting in the rink in silence, amazing.

The first responders will definitely need support. I can’t even imagine. We didn’t put out any sticks, but tomorrow is national jersey day, my work is participating. $8m so far? Holy shit that’s amazing.

For me, that Tom Cochrane video was a punch in the gut. That song has always been harrowing, but in times like these it’s even more powerful.
