My New Hip Jersey

Words fail me when I try to describe my joy and thrill at finding this beautiful Tragically Hip hockey jersey today. It was an instant purchase, naturally. It’s an XXL which wears much too big on me… I suppose if I ever had hockey pads under it, it’d fit great… but I couldn’t care less. I love it completely!

Hip jersey? Check. Timmy’s go cup cupface? Check. An actual Canadian (with bonus raised eyebrow)? Check. Dear Readers, we have achieved Canuck selfie gold.

When I was a kid I wanted whatever team Wayne Gretzky was playing for to win. Now I just want the team playing the best hockey to win. This series, it’s hard to tell – they’re both damn good!

There is someone that has a similar jersey.
    No numbers on it though.
He says he bought it at Cobo Hall in Detroit 1996.
The same night as Live Between Us was recorded.

I did a wee bit of a dig too and found the same thing – the 00 on the arm makes me think it wasn’t from the LBU show – but it’s fun to imagine that somehow it is from back then. I mean, that’d make this thing 22 years old…

Either they used the jersey for Henhouse, Phantom Power, Music @ Work.

I kind of remember the jerseys and they seemed really expensive, so maybe they had tons of stock to unload.

Or someone bought at 1996 show and liked double 0 and had that stitched on. The ones in photos all have no numbers.

Yeah man I’m super-stoked. Never dreamed I’d get one!

The back of the jersey is blank. I contemplated putting my own surname on it, but I kinda like Barilko better!

Hey do you know the significance of the 00 on the sleeve? Is that the year of the jersey’s release? Or maybe some other signifier? Or is it just there for the sake of having a number on there without really hving a number at all (I mean, two zeros isn’t really a number is it)?

That’s OK. I may never know, and really I don’t mind if I know or not. It’s still a sweet jersey. But Bop had some interesting ideas and if any of what he says is true, it could be pretty sweet indeed!

No need to drop a caribou, you’re absolutely right!

Did I tell you I recently nailed the guitar part for that song on my new Boss amp with the gorgeous tremolo? Ohhhh it feels so good to play that song. I’ll wear the jersey next time I play it!

Yeah, I miss that dude too. We all do. Big time.

Meant to ask if you know anything about these… is the 00 numbering on the sleeve the year it was released? Like, this one was from the year 2000? Or it is just random numbering they threw on there because it ought to have something so they chose nothing (00) as something? There is no lettering or numbering on the back of the jersey at all.

Everytime I post a cupface, I think of you, Sarca! You started all this, didn’t you? 🙂

Yeah it was at work. It went out Friday morning and I thought for sure it would have been loooong gone by today. We went this morning to get new pants for the boy (he’s outgrown everything again) and it was still there. I didn’t even think twice, boom I bought it. Soooo happy right now!
