#47 Kula Shaker – Drop In The Sea
This acoustic beauty came to me from 2002’s Kollected: The Best Of.
I don’t know why, but I kept expecting silly lyrics, like this was some sort of goofy Monty Python song… maybe it was his accent, I don’t know. Of course, now I’ve ruined it for you. Sit back and enjoy!
I loved this band back in the day. Did you know that the lead singer is the son of Hayley Mills (Mrs Bliss of Saved by the bell and child actress from countless Disney movies) ?

Somewhere in the dusty corners of my addled mind I knew what you were saying was correct about the family connection thing, but I could never have told you what it was with such precision!
I do remember walking into the big HMV at 333 Yonge in Taranna ages ago, back when my lovely wife was still living in the Annex and attending York (that album dropped 1999 so that adds up), and there was this huge (must’ve been 25’x6′) flag/poster thing of their Peasant, Pigs & Astronauts album cover hanging right over the escalator. Natch.

Your wife went to York too? That’s where I went and where I met my own lovely wife. By the time Peasants, Pigs, and Astronauts came out, though, I had graduated and was living over at St Clair & Bathurst, walking distance to the Annex. Small world.

Small world indeed, and she sure did. Right out of high school she spent a year working in England, then came back and spent five years at York, double major psychology and fine art. She used to have a room in a house in the Brunswick/Ulster area. We moved to Montreal for the fall of 1999 so she could start her Masters at Concordia. As for meeting her thogh, well, that was kindergarten. We went all the way through public and high schools together, never dated. Small world indeed.

I followed my wife to Ottawa so she could do her Masters and we’re still here.

Parallel lives, man! Holy moly. Except we then moved from Montreal to Saskatoon, which I don’t regret (it’s beautiful and I met James!) but I do really truly miss Montreal often.
