I like the flute in the background. Are the Beastie Boys like a boyband in a way?

That flute is a sample from Jeremy Steig’s song Howlin’ For Judy, and it’s a killer. Boy band? Not in the the traditional ‘make teenaged girls swoon’ kind of way, not intentionally anyway, but also the Beastie Boys may well be the greatest boy band in history! 😉

Ok, maybe not a boyband but the Beastie Boys are a band filled with 20-30 year old boys and they sing, wow that sounds bad sorry! The Backstreet Boys and One Direction are the boybands for me. Though it is impressive when a band like that appeals to well-rounded age groups and genders (One Direction never did that I think). The magic of sampling music, that’s what’s so cool about recording, anything can happen.

The Beasties were (are) absolute masters of the sample. And no, not boy band in the traditional sense, but it’s been lamented many times that the solo rap act killed hip hop, that bands/groups were when hip hop was real and best, and the Beasties had that. One my all-time faves. Check out Sold Gold Hits for a smattering of stuff you might know, or the Sounds Of Science for a 2CD way to get an even more broad look at all they could do.

I added Sold Gold Hits to the list of albums to check out! Interesting fact about hip hop. I’ve heard the name Beastie Boys, but never heard a song by them officially until this post.
