Beastie Boys – Some Old Bullshit
Playful self-deprecation in the album title aside, this compilation collects some of their early 80s hardcore EPs, along with some early radio stuff. I love that they were a punk band before taking up the hip hop, it informs their sound and, more importantly, their attitude. They came from a perfect (Polly Wog) stew of sounds and a period of New York primed and ready. It’s their superhero origin story.

I’m reading the 33 ⅓ monograph on Paul’s Boutique at present (for a book group). It’s my first exposure to the BBs in any form. At the present juncture it does not seem that likely I’ll be collecting the back catalogue, but one never knows! Absolutely great album title, though.

Welcome to the Beasties! You are lucky – I wish I could be hearing them for the first time, here in 2020! I have a few of those 33 ⅓ books, but not that one. It’s going on my list!

So far, Aaron, I’m enjoying the book much more than the music!

I try to be interesting! So, er, interesting good or interesting bad? I mean, the punk stuff cropped up again later, like Tough Guy or Time For Living…
