Barney Bentall & The Legendary Hearts – Greatest Hits 1986-1996

I love this music. I thought I had all the albums, but it turns out all that’s here is this hits set. Oversiiiight! I’ll have my eyes peeled if I can ever get back into the world…

Real CanCon here, folks, tracks from the soundtrack to our youth on the radio, from the tradition of Mellencamp, Springsteen and Young, but with their own twists to it too. Something about their sound just feels like home.

So many strong original songs on this hits collection, full-stop, and there are even covers of the Stones’ Dead Flowers (straight up) and AC/DC’s U Shook Me All Night Long (sic) (as a slow acoustic ballad!) tacked on at the end.

Something to live for, indeed!

Thanks for the reminder. Good solid band with good songs. Yeah the whole breaking out of the region is a tough one for a lot of bands. Always thought BB should have got more world wide love.

I honestly don’t know if they did, though I hope so. So many Canadian bands do well here but breaking through to the States is so tough. I remember reading in the Barenaked Ladies book, them talking about their early days and their first tour in the States and how it would’ve been easier to just take all the tour money, put it in an open suitcase on the roof of the car and drive down the highway until the moeny was gone and then just go home. Thanks to Jason Priestly (and generally being awesome) they did manage to get some traction in the States later, but soooo many don’t. Anyway, if you like super-solid Canuck AOR 80s/90s pop rock with smart songs, Barney and the LH have you covered.
