On top of everything else, I’ve been playing catch-up on albums I got (or meant to get) in 2020. Most of them made it onto my Best Of The Year post at the end of December. This blurb is to acknowledge that I still haven’t covered them here in these pages and I know I need to! So this isn’t really a series, just me trying to get caught up on stuff I meant to do. Give ‘er!

Here’s a 2020 release that I didn’t need to buy. I already own all the studio albums, so I could pretty much make a CDr of this myself. The problem being, I would start adding other songs I felt were left off this mix, and then I’d be at 2CD and then… well, I’d just be back to all the studio albums on my iPod, in full. Full circle.
So, creating this mix was someone else’s problem, and the song choices were theirs, and so listening to this is different from what I would do and so, in my weirdo head, this was worth buying. Well, that and you get two non-album singles (Let’s Shake Hands, and Jolene [Dolly Parton]), but hey.
“The album is the band’s first compilation in their history, and first non-live or non-video release since dissolving in 2011. It was announced on October 6, with a statement from the band’s record label reading (in part): “We get that the idea of ‘Greatest Hits’ may seem irrelevant in the era of streaming, but we also wholeheartedly believe that great bands deserve a ‘Greatest Hits.’” (Wiki)
Truth.
Tracks, breakdown by album (26 total):
The White Stripes (4)
De Stijl (4)
White Blood Cells (5)
Elephant (4)
Get Behind Me Satan (4)
Icky Thump (3)
non-album singles (2)
Check the whole thing here:
I’ll stick with the studio albums. I just don’t need another thing to buy, lol.

I didn’t have any White Stripe so this was a no brainer for me. A good place to start. It was a cool Christmas gift, but I would’ve bought it if I didn’t get it as a gift.

That’s a GREAT Christmas gift! I sure do love me some White Stripes. Do you see yourself buying the albums proper, down the line?

Maybe some day, but too many others I am trying to get right now. I won’t rule it out though, just not a priority.

Gotcha. I’ve got lots of records like that, I’ll grab someday when I’m in the shoppes and there’s money left in the budget and nothing else I really wanna get. I understand! That Hits set will tide you over nicely while you wait, too!

This is the kinda set that would do me just fine. I only have White Blood Cells and Elephant. Never really got into them the way I thought I would.

Then yup, this would cover the bases of songs you know. Who knows, might act as a later gateway to more, too!

I’ve had others, but I didn’t really care much for them. Don’t tell anyone, but I think they were / are hugely overrated.

I won’t tell! 😉 It’s an interesting thing. I do still think they made grat music for the music they were making. It probably shouldn’t have been as big as it was because the big rock isn’t built like that. I love the creativity though, and the theme and story and all that. A cool project.

I considered getting this (still am considering it actually) but I feel like I want all the albums separately. I’ve currently only got De Stijl in my vinyl collection…

Yeah it’s a tough one. I’d say get all the albums, but only because I’ve owned them for years. There are too many good songs left off this. That said, this is great in the car or just as a general mix, so… get both! The discography AND this one! 😉
