Billie Joe + Norah – Foreverly

Collaborations in music happen all the time. Sometimes they come out of left field (like Lou Reed and Metallica) but still somehow it still makes sense from the start. And sometimes, collaborations happen and I just wouldn’t even have thought of it, but the end result is something amazing.

So when this collaboration between Norah Jones and Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) appeared, and it was covers of Everly Brothers songs, my true first thought was WTF? But then I heard it, and fell in love.

These two voices work well together, and the arrangements are tasteful, respectful, fun. I don’t know how these people met, or how this project happened, but I don’t care.

I really, really like this album a lot.

Ah, this is a great album – I’d forgotten about it until a few weeks ago when talking elsewhere about Norah Jones!

Yessir I like it a lot. Really tastefully done. I was thinking about adding to the post (I didn’t) but usually it’s the male voice that reins in the female voice on the harmonies, provides the solid lower base. Here it’s the other way around, and that’s cool.

No sir, that was recent. It is indeed a big change, but turned out to be necessary. I was having serious lag issus with WP on my iMac and no one else seemed to have issue with the site. I thought it was how Safari was talking to WP. Before I got into all that, I noticed our fre theme, which we’d used for years) had actually been retired. So I went through ALL of the free themes and tried each one out (it took a while). This one was clean, simple, and required the least fussing. Turns out I haven’t had any lag at all since the change, so far looks like a simple fix to a frustrating problem. Win!

The internal temperature and fan speed of my Mac would skyrocket whenever I was on the old theme. As sad as it is to see it go, my CPU is thankful.

Thank you, also, for this. It will be an adjustment for me too, especially having the sidebar stuff moved to the footer (the theme doesn’t allow sidebars). Folks report it’s pretty easy through the Reader, though, so that’s a plus.

Mine too has that. Bothers me a bit that the search bar has to be at the bottom of the page, but it’s a minor thing.

exactly. I’m not sure anyone ever used it anyway. I think I liked having that out there for anyone new who might find the site, like a Welcome mat. But the veterans hardly used it, I’d wager.

I occasionally use search bars, usually when I want people’s opinions on a certain album. it doesn’t happen often though, but more often than most veterans, I’d wager. Especially as I don’t use the reader.

Ah, your feedback is even more valuable as you don’t use the Reader! I just had another look and there’s no way to move things to a sidebar in this theme, just three footers. I also can’t seem to get our tagline back on the page header, despite my having checked the box to allow it. Weird. I also can’t seem to go back and edit posts once they are posted – I go under WP Admin, Posts, click the one I want and it just gives me the first block, not the rest of the post. That’ll be a WP thing, not the theme, but it’s still weird. I get the feeling we are in a state of flux with WP and they are committed to ramming home these unnecessary new changes whil we’re left here to deal with it all as end users. Sigh.

Sorry for the delay, I was writing a 1000 words on a Fleetwood Mac album.

I think there might be a plugin to get things (at least the search bar) to other places, but they, alas, are not available for free plans. I’m happy with how things are for mine at the moment anyway.

And yeah, I’m old fashioned in a sense. Good old FOMO stops me from using the reader for fear of missing a post. For my favourite sites I keep a permanent tab open with the home page and refresh it every day. For the others, I check in regularly.

No delay here, 1000 words on an FM album? Damn!

I doubt we’ll ever not use the free page (unless we eventually fill up the photo storage allowance or something, but we’re at about 30% in 15 years so I’m not worried). Anyway, the free site works well enough for the nonsense I throw up there!

I find with the Reader that I can fairly easily keep track of where I’m at simply by hitting Like on every post I have read. It makes folks happy (Community!) and, better yet, shows me visually where I left off in the Reader list. Any post not marked Like still needs to be read! I tried having a tab open permanently, but I am my own worst helper and usually forget and close the tab at some point. Le sigh.

I guess I just work a little differently at times (shocker). Good to know there isn’t much danger of filling up the photo storage. That was the one worry I had about using the free site.

We’ve only ever posted .jpg, never MP3s, since October 2006. I usually only use 300×300 from Wiki or wherever, just wee ones because folks will only scan-look at them and never look at them again (who cares if they’re HD?). Now, I just went and checked our Media tab and we’ve used 24.4% of 3GB. So in 15 years we’re not even quite at 25%. Now, if we’d posted MP3s, then it fills up quicker for sure. But a YouTube link suffices, for me, if a sound example is needed. Can’t even say how many click Readers through on the YT links either (maybe some, sometimes, maybe). Even better, I’ll try to post a YT link that has the cover art as the thumbnail, so then I don’t even have to post a picture as well. If you see a picture AND a YT link, it’s ‘cos I couldn’t find a YT link with the cover art, just an official video or fanmade thing or whatever. But visuals help, so I keep doing ’em and, apparently, can keep doing ’em for a long while yet. By my math, it’ll be another 45 years before that free 3GB is full, at this rate. I’ll be old as dinosaur shite haha.

Yep, I use the low res from wikipedia as well, and the Youtube link to break up the text.
