KMA772 Bing Crosby – White Christmas

For shits and giggles, I threw in the Bing CD that came as a 2-fer with the Wynton I reviewed yesterday. Now remember, I don’t generally like Christmas music. I do not find it festive.

Album opener here, Silent Night, is all “Silen’ nigh’, holy nigh’,” and “’round yon virgin mother and chile’.” The dude isn’t even enunciating properly. He can sing, sure, but please.

I skipped through the rest of it fairly quickly. It sounds like you’d expect it would. The title track is a famous one, of course. Heard it ad nauseum in malls. On a few tracks, the Andrews Sisters add some life (anybody else remember the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy Of Company B? My Mom had that on her jukebox when we were kids).

I dunno, this isn’t for me. iTunes says it was made in 1961. I can’t be arsed to look it up to see if that’s accurate. But imagine Hollywood’s image of Christmas in that era. They’d probably be playing this music while they lie to us and try to brainwash us into believing life was more idyllic back then.
