Carbon Whales – South
Haha, Robert Pollard, no one believes you this time! But Hooray for you anyway!
Check it out…
This EP was listed on the Rockathon web site as follows:
"This is a Bob SPONSORED release. The Carbon Whales are an obscure band from the late 70s that actor Paddy Considine turned Bob on to. The 4 songs on this EP are apparently the only things they ever recorded. It was never released. Bob really loved it so we tracked the band down and asked if we could release it. The singer sounds EXACTLY like Bob. Check out the song writing team of Bob Evans and Joustin Clark."
Of course, no one would fall for this "other band" fake-out… or would you? Doesn’t that singer sound one helluva lot like our biggest hero, Mr. Pollard? Hmmm… And Pollard sure doesn’t have a long history of coming up with a zillion new band names, does he!? (Suitcase series, anyone?) Haha awesome.
Well, whatever you believe, this is a pretty damn good EP. There’s enough 70’s freak-out rock, pop riff gems and spacey sonic experimentation in these four little tracks to keep you hoppin’ and boppin’ all through the night and well into the next morning. Try it through headphones. Beautiful.
We are all richer for having this man in our world.
