On our anniversary trip last weekend, we killed a few minutes in the Chapters store. We don’t have one in our town, so when we get to a town that has one (about once a year), we find it fun to go through all the bargain books. There’s always a lot of crap, but often there’s a good find to be had, as well.
Like this one that I chose to buy, Hugh Fielder and Mike Gent’s book:
The original flap price was UK £20 / USD $35. As you can see, it went to CDN $19.99, then (in the upper right) it was $5.00… and I got it for $1.00. I suppose if I’d waited a bit longer they would just have given it to me, to be rid of it, but $1 seemed as good a point as any to take the bait.
It’s a big, lovely hard cover book full of a bunch of punks who likely never imagined such a thing would ever exist. In fact, they probably would have sneered at the very idea and told anyone who proposed this idea to fuck right off.
No matter, it’s good fun to flip through these pages. The blurbs are short, and it’s a cool and concise history of the movement on both sides of the Atlantic, and it’s illustrated with all sorts of fun pictures [click to embiggen and read!]…
I’ve really been enjoying this book. Cool find!
