Kellarissa is a brand new addition to the awesome Mint family, and as has always been true of Mint’s acquisitions, we’re so fortunate to hear this work! Flamingo is the first solo record by Larissa Loyva of The Choir Practice and P:ano. With a resume like that, you know this has to be brilliant… and it is!
Her voice, layered or left naked in all the right places, is the kind of voice that creeps into your brain and won’t let you think of anything else. The keyboard work here is deceptively simple, the surface notes luring the listener easily into a deeper world of atmospheric beauty. A gentle plucked acoustic guitar evokes candlelight and lava lamps, rich colours and a very real sense of self. Elements of electronic music and aptly placed drums keep things on enough of an edge to leave you wanting more.
This record is a confident stride forward, an ethereal effort with far more depth than the simplistic misnomer of ‘pop.’ You really need to hear this. It’s fantastic.
