Here’s another LP I dug up and gave a spin while I worked in the Man Cave.
Y’all know I love jazz. And this here is one mighty damn fine jazz record. It swings, it’s got the blues, Basie’s band is absolutely killin’ it. And the Mills Brothers are hittin’ it just right, playing with the beat and making it all their own in so many awesome ways. The arrangements are stellar, and the recording carries weight while still skipping along lightly in a great groove.
Released in 1968, I looked it up on Discogs and copies start at $0.50. Folks, that is an absolute travesty. How can people so vastly undervalue such greatness? Harry Mills even uses Basie’s very famous “One more time!,” and on the first track! C’mon, man, $0.50? I hope that’s a typo.
I loved this LP. This was fantastic.
