Mitch Mitchell’s Terrifying Experience

If you’ve been reading this site, you’ll know that I’m a pretty big fan of Guided By Voices and all of the various projects that stem from that central point. You’ll know, too, how sad I was when GBV folded, but that I was assuaged and relieved that the aftermath in no way meant a stoppage of output from the various members, collaborators, etc.

One day I was trolling around on www.gbvdb.com (a beautiful, one-stop source for all things GBV and related) and learned of the web site for The Terrifying Experience (TEX), whose members include Mitch Mitchell, guitarist for the original GBV line-up from 1983 through to 1996. On the TEX site, there were two CDs, Supreme Radial and Magnetic Breakthrough, sold together for only $12! What a deal! Of course, I placed an order immediately.

Some time passed and, in answer to my query as to order status, it turned out that there was a simple information glitch. Through sorting this out, I was fortunate to have email contact with both Mitch Mitchell and Tommy Chrome, of TEX. This was, in itself, really cool for me, being an avid music fan and collector. Actual contact with your idols is rare and amazing.

Anyway, the order was soon put aright and, in no time, my rockin’ loot was in the mail. There had been mention, in the emails, of some extra stuff being sent my way, to make up for time lost, etc. Who am I to argue?

Well, all hail the Holy Gods Of Rock Awesomeness, because the parcel arrived today and I am so stoked! Not only were both CDs finally in my hot little hands, but so were two righteous 7” vinyl singles and a rockin’ t-shirt!

Wasting no time, I pulled the t-shirt on right over top of the shirt I was already wearing and immediately plugged Supreme Radial into my stereo. What a great rock record! I bounced around the living room (scaring the hell outta the cats, but who cares?), loving the sweet, sweet sounds. Seriously, there’s not a bad song on the whole thing!

As soon as that album ended, in went Magnetic Breakthrough and its energy sent me on another blissful jag around the house… Oh man, I can’t say enough about these records! I started playing them over again as soon as they were done…

Unfortunately, I haven’t played the vinyls yet today, as I don’t currently have a player on hand. This is a situation I will remedy post haste.

So here’s a HUGE THANK YOU SHOUT OUT to all the guys from TEX for totally doing me right with this order, and for the music! Your albums are gold, and I’ll be awaiting your next musical adventure with my eyes and ears wide open!
