Peter Elkas – Party Of One

I Wanna Taranna Pt. 39: She Said Boom! #6, $1 Deal #4: Peter Elkas – Party Of One

Y’all know that Peter Elkas* was a member of the Local Rabbits, who opened for Sloan the first time I saw them in concert (1993), which means I’ve seen this guy in concert! A looooong time ago! Anyway.

Party Of One was his first solo album after Local Rabbits stopped, and it’s a doozy. It’s musically varied, and distinct in a way I can’t quite describe except to say that it’s likely I’ve never heard another album quite like this one. It’s damn strong all over, whip-smart and tightly-written and just a ton of damn fun to listen to…

It isn’t fair to compare him to other artists, but just for reference, try Joel Plaskett, Sam Robert, Ron Sexsmith, even the Tragically Hip (the song Gone, It’s Gone reminded me of Gordie)… Canuck rawk and singer-songwriter awesomeness!

I’d buy more Peter Elkas albums in a heartbeat.

* “Peter Elkas (born July 24, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, signed to MapleMusic Recordings. He spent twelve years as part of the Montreal band Local Rabbits, with whom he started playing as a teenager. He released his first solo album, Party of One, in 2004, and has opened for such artists as Ron Sexsmith, Joel Plaskett, Feist and k-os.” (Wiki)

Bonus Super-Awesome (Drunken?) Amazon Blurb:

After ten years of work as instrumentalist and compositor in an independent group of rock the rabbits peter keep working with don Kerr for his own songs. Don, ex-productor of tle last rabbits, offers one more time services from production to drum. Peter takes guitar and microphone. Together, they enrol Doug friesen for bass and the trio composed party of one, a musical experience full of heart. They demonstrate lots of vocal and guitaristic capacity the emotions are simple pure and mature peter elkas offers there an excellent album with great texts where his own experience is considering with artlessness. Bad Reouta. 2006

Haha whut. Just… all of that… WHUT. My goodness.
