#33: Sonny Rollins – Namely You
I just can’t stop listening to Sonny Rollins anyway, so when this beauty popped up in the randomizer, I smiled and sat up straight and let this majesty wash over me. From Newk’s Time (1957), it’s everything you could want from a slow swing Sonny tune. Oh baby.
Personnel: Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Wynton Kelly (piano), Doug Watkins (bass), Philly Joe Jones (drums).
Sonny Rollins – The Bridge
Spend any time at all on the Wiki page for this album, and you’ll get the story.
Listen to this album and what you get is an earful of some masterful fucking jazz. God DAMN! This is, without a doubt, some of the best stuff I’ve heard in ages. 1962, mofo!
Also, if he was on that bridge for that long every day, he was surely pissing off that bridge. Think about it.
