eyesinweasel – Wrinkled Thoughts

Tobin Sprout is another GBV alumnus, and a great songwriter in his own right. He’s had several solo albums, all released to varying degrees of popularity and response but, like Mr. Pollard himself, he sought other vehicles for releasing tracks. Excellent!

Enter eyesinweasel, and rejoice! This is a really cool record. All the great elements we’ve come to love, respect (and expect, frankly) are here, presented in the best possible ways. This record is a treat from start to finish.

Bringing in Dan Toohey, Nick Kizirnis and John Peterson (see www.gbv.com for their other collaborative work in the GBV universe), they present a whole slew of glorious pop songs of a highly bright nature. This is so pleasing to the ears and the mind (Wrinkled or otherwise) that I played it twice in a row, without stopping between spins.

You know, it makes me wonder if there wasn’t something in the water in Dayton, Ohio beginning about 20 years ago. Or perhaps it was the beer. Anyway, that brilliant group of musicians, and all of the various projects and sounds that they’ve pursued over the years, is simply astounding. Their output has been mountainous, and the majority of it is perfect pop-rock gold.

Wrinkled Thoughts is no exception. Every song here is as it should be, making sense and leaving the listener feeling very happy indeed. I don’t often say this, but this feels like a complete album. Nothing is missing – all of the necessary elements are in their right places and for just the right amounts of time. These songs are highly creative and, as I’ve so long held to be true, are what is so often lacking in the shite on the radio.

Come join the fun, and get your hands on this record. You’ll be glad you did.
