BMV#9 Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs – Medicine County

Trying new formats to see what’s sustainable. Larger, centered picture with caption text. Lemme know what you think…

Of course, we all love Holly from her time around Mr. Childish, and for her garage sound. Sometimes she goes country, and this album has both. A sure-fire, can’t-miss, all-the-hyphenates artist. Brilliant record.

Holly Golightly – Slowly But Surely

The Taranna Was Hot Series: Part 21/25 (Sonic Boom, $2.99)

Holly Golightly rules. I buy her discs whenever I see them. Equal parts Patsy Cline country, psychedelic 60s a la Petula Clark or Nancy Sinatra, and Nina Simone and Billie Holiday jazzy blues. The sound is incredibly good, roomy tube amp glory that allows these clear-eyed songs of love lost and hearts broken the space to breathe and reveal their true beauty. Even when the whole thing ends with death, as it does for all, you know it’ll be OK.
