Pop Rivets – MT Sounds From Anarchy Ranch

Here’s another blast of punk rock awesomeness from the Pop Rivets. Billy Childish et. al. had a real knack for whipping up a good time frenzy and then playing everything really fast. This is total party music and I love it.

The songs here are strong and energetic, and we even get an hilariously great live set with Kinks and Troggs covers, messed up and rocked out as only these guys could have done. I mean seriously, those vocals rule! It must’ve been so loud in there that night. Yeah! What’s not to love?

This is Aaron music, if ever there was a type of music you could think of when trying to define my fairly broad tastes in music. I hear a little bit of everything in here, a whole lot of influences, and the crowning achievement is a healthy dose of not giving a shit, rendering it totally awesome.

Yeah, I’m repeating myself. Get this stuff for yourself and see what I mean. Bloody brilliant.

Pop Rivets – Greatest Hits

I believe I’ve raved in these pages before about the talents of one Billy Childish. I’ve managed to collect a few of his records over the years, which really should be more because he’s released a couple hundred by now, easily.

Anyway, on a recent trip to Toronto I managed to find a couple of discs by one of his bands, the Pop Rivets. What a blast of fun! This one, which they’ve called Greatest Hits, is a collection of great garage punk, boldly diplaying that perfect late 70’s sound and an energy that’s refreshing. It makes me want to continue turning up the volume as it plays on. Think I will…

Ah, there. That’s better. Yeah, there’s old 50’s beats and surf influence and straight on punk and a general love of barely controlled chaos all mixed together into a delicious swirl that make these songs absolute keepers. You’ll be sure you’ve hear it all before, but that’s because this was the influence for what you’re remembering. Awesome.

Yeah, baby, this disc rocks.
