Death From Above 1979 – The Physical World

I bought this on spec because I remember James excitedly buying one of their releases in Taranna at the old Sonic Boom on the north side of Bloor – holy crap, that was a long time ago, now…

Anyway, this 2014 album is the only release of theirs I now own, and it rocks like hell! I hear Black Keys and White Stripes and I Mother Earth… and it sucks that I said that because comparisons are always somewhat unfair, because of course they have their own sound and it grew on me like a fungus and holy crap I love this album. It would sound amazing in a live setting…

In looking it up, I learned that this was a reunion album after several years of breaking up. And they only had one album (2004’s You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine) before they split! There was a fight with a label over their name, which you can read about here, if you wanna. There’s been one other album, 2017’s Outrage! Is Now and, while they are not prolific, they certainly make awesome music. Haha I even made that White Stripes comparison before knowing this was duo. I coulda sworn this was a band of four players…

Nevermind. Put this one in, turn it all the way the hell up, and give ‘er!

Hit It Or Quit It? Hit!

I guess I’m wrong. The Roots are the Fallon house band. I had to look it up.
The show I watched was part of a special week long stint the Fallon show was on taping in Brooklyn. Not sure if The Roots were there.
The focus was on Schaffer and not the house band.

The only thing I remebwred was Jimmy Kimmel with The Roots and Metallica so I linked the band with him.

I do not watch talk shows anymore so I’m out of the loop. Plus sometimes loopy.
        Plus, too many Jimmies.

I reviewed their first album when we did that Ontario bands group post way back when.
    I gave them a 9/10.

I remember first hearing of the band on ine of the late night talk shows.
Funny how Hollywood found them before an Ontario boy did.

Speaking of late night talk shows, Wu Tang Clan was on Jimmy Fallon and I taped it. I might watch tonight.

I watched the show and saved it.
        Bryan Cranston was also on.

Letterman was my fave talk show guy and Craig Ferguson a distant 2nd. They are both gone now so this was the first show I watched in years.
I may review it. I have so many in the hopper. Not sure. Hopefully.

Usually the Roots are in Jimmy Kimmel I think.

Ohh. I almost forgot. Paul Schaffer was the guest band leader that night.
Jimmy Fallon called him Thunder Baythoven which Paul obsessed over all. It actually is a pretty neat handle. I think Deke would approve.

I used to like Schaffer on Letterman.
Espexially his “HAh Hah” nasally laugh. Then the crowd would laugh at his laugh. He was a cool, mellow dude.

He seemed like a coked up verson on Fallon. I don’t know though. Maybe that is the real Paul Schaffer.

I might have their first album Kicking about somewhere… but I didn’t know this existed. I dare say if it’s as glorious a racket as they made back then you’re a winner.
