Every year we solemnly observe the sacrifices and hardships endured during past conflicts. Without diminishing any other year, this year (the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII) feels somehow that bit more poignant, more powerful, and more in need of these reminders. We must remember that, no matter how divisive the times, we are in this together, as one. Never again.
Every year, I’m impressed that students seem to appreciate the importance of the day.
Whether it’s at a Remembrance Day assembly, a moment of silence, they get it – and it’s really encouraging to see.

I’m so glad to hear this. If it starts to fade, you are hereby tasked with renewing their remembrance!
I know for sure my own kids remember and understand. They’re both pacifists and abhor anything violent (especially on TV etc) so when they hear stories it really hits home to them what folks went through, and they appreciate it in full.

Great songs to mark this occasion. Thank you for posting them.

Thanks! I probably post one or the other (or both) every year. I just love them both so much. This year I donned a poppy, stood at attention and observed two minutes of silence, even though I was here in the house.
